Postcard Writing Campaign

We're writing News Boosting postcards to North Carolina voters! This is a new initiative by our friends at Postcards To Swing States (Progressive Turnout Project). It was tested in Virginia in the 2025 election cycle and is now being rolled out to selected states for 2026. Voters will receive a series of news related postcards over the next several months. Our mailing date is February 18, 2026. If you want to write, fill out this google form.

Save Public Education

We are partnering with Public School Strong and Down Home NC to help get the word out about the #BigUglyBill and its implications for education in our state.

There are an alarming number of people who don't know what the passing of HB-1 (the "Big Beautiful Bill") will mean for public schools across the country. The drastic funding cuts in the bill will have serious consequences for North Carolina as well.

Here's a brief snapshot:

  • overcrowded classrooms and poor learning outcomes due to growing teacher shortages

  • crumbling school buildings and failing infrastructure in schools across the state

  • staff shortages of bus drivers, cafeteria workers, and other support staff like nurses, social workers, and librarians

It can all be overwhelming and demoralizing, but we can not give up. Our children are depending on us! Here are some things that we can do:

  • Help spread the word about the funding cuts so parents and public school supporters won't be totally blindsided.

  • Invite people to get involved, no matter what their political affiliation is. If they care about public schools, we need them to join us.

  • Connect with other public school advocates so we can leverage our collective power and work together to fight the assaults on our schools.

Here's how you can take action now with Public School Strong and Down Home NC:

  • Join the monthly Public School Strong Organizing Meeting where parents, family members, educators, and supporters from across the nation gather each month to gain practical tools to promote, protect, and strengthen our public schools. Register Here

  • Go here to find updates and some of the latest news about the state of public education in North Carolina.

Sign Petition to Pause Student Loan Payments

According to an official at the Department of Education (ED), interest will begin accruing for anyone in the SAVE forbearance as early as August 1. Right now, the SAVE plan is being challenged in the courts, and the Department is claiming that a ruling from back in February requires them to resume interest.

ADD YOUR NAME: PAUSE STUDENT LOAN PAYMENTS NOW

The timing of this announcement really could not come at a worse time. While so many of us are worried about housing, food, medical, and childcare costs, we’re now being dealt another blow. Additionally, most income-driven repayment (IDR) plans are going away in the coming years due to the recent reconciliation bill, which will leave borrowers with limited repayment options and skyrocketing student loan payments. This is simply unacceptable.

Medicaid CALL TO ACTION!!

Medicaid has been underfunded for the current fiscal year. The state's mini-budget passed in August 2025 left a $319 Million shortfall in the current budget for Medicaid (funds needed to operate the fiscal year at current capacity). NC DHHS was forced to make operational changes, to find $319 million in reduced costs. Beginning on October 1, every provider will see a minimum of a 3% rate cut, with some services being cut at 8% or 10%.

With lower rates, providers in NC could lose money on treating too many patients with Medicaid in a given month or year. This means that patients could face provider shortages and even longer wait periods before they can be seen using their Medicaid. Reducing the reimbursement rate could force providers to see fewer patients that use Medicaid, or to stop accepting Medicaid patients completely. This will accelerate the closure of rural clinics, specialists and hospitals across NC (esp. in rural areas).

What can we do about it? — Make two phone calls.

  • Look up your state Senator and state House Representative by entering your address here.

  • Then call both, using the short script below. Include your own personal story, and feel free to use your OWN words!

Hello, my name is (name) and I’m calling from (city or town). I’m worried about the cuts that have been passed onto the Medicaid providers in our state, and I’m frustrated that the NC General Assembly has left Medicaid underfunded. It’s dangerous to leave money out of our Medicaid network, and we’re counting on you to make sure that doesn’t continue. We need more health care in NC, not more Medicaid cuts! Please do the right thing and fund the health of our state. Thank you.

And you can also sign the petition here.

Help plan mass action against Avelo Airlines

Avelo Airlines wants you to think they’re “refreshingly simple.” What they don’t put on the billboards and “hello, avelo” marketing posters: they’re the first commercial airline in the U.S. to sign a deportation charter contract with ICE. Unmarked, secretive flights. No guarantee of due process. Public money subsidizing mass deportations. We are in the beginning stages of discussing mass action against Avelo in conjunction with Indivisible chapters in the Charlotte area. Interested in helping out? Make Your Voice Heard About The SSEP Pipeline

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) released an Environmental Assessment for the SSEP methane gas pipeline, proposed for Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. The project includes expanding polluting compressor stations in communities already burdened with poor air quality.

Tell Gov. Stein: No SSEP Pipeline!

Communities across North Carolina have been fighting Williams Transco’s proposed Southeast Supply Enhancement Project for over a  year. Five local governments, including Guilford and Davidson counties along with the town of Midway and city of Greensboro, have gone on the record raising concerns around this project.

Now, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality will decide whether or not to grant key permits for the SSEP project before the end of the year. Governor Stein has the power to direct the DEQ to deny the permits for this dangerous, polluting project. Tell Gov. Stein to stop SSEP!

Call the governor’s office at (919) 814-2000 (select option 5). Check out the suggested script and other ways to contact Gov. Stein.
