What We Are Consuming
Politics Girl - Podcasts and YouTube
Leigh McGowan launched Politics Girl as a way to help people reconnect with politics. She started the YouTube channel in 2015 as a way to inform and inspire because she said, “when you understand you care, and when you care you vote”. People loved her no-nonsense, casual approach and the way she was able to break down complicated issues into everyday speak. As her numbers grew so did her popularity and influence. People like her because she’s smart in a way that doesn’t make them feel dumb.
Her latest episode featured Indivisible's very own Ezra Levin discussing the future of the Democratic Party and the importance of primaries in changing the course of a political party. Check it out on her website (https://www.politicsgirl.com) or wherever you get your podcasts! And of course follow them on all of your social medias!

From the August 21st Newsletter; The Long Shadow Podcast
This week’s What We Are Consuming is brought to you by Joel! The Long Shadow is a podcast hosted by Garrett Graff that helps us to make sense of what people know — and what they thought they knew — about the most pivotal moments in U.S. history. The 4th season just dropped, and it is all about the internet. The internet as we know it today is a harrowing landscape. But in its quirky infancy, the web changed everything about how we lived, shared, shopped, and communicated. It goes from the hopeful early days of the internet into the destructive force that it is today. Check it out here (Long Shadow Podcast) or download wherever you get your podcasts!
From the August 7th Newsletter; Cardinal & Pine
“Imagine being in your kitchen, cooking breakfast for your siblings and getting them ready for school, only to have the FBI break down your door, looking for someone who doesn’t live there anymore. That was Allison Bustillo Chinchilla’s experience on February 20, a day that changed her and her family’s life forever. Bustillo Chinchilla, a nursing student in Charlotte, has spent the past five months since that raid in ICE detention at a private prison in Georgia.”
So writes Dylan Rhoney for Cardinal and Pine, “a left-leaning news outlet that puts people over politics. And we care about North Carolinians because we are North Carolinians.” In this changing media landscape, Cardinal and Pine meets you where you are: sign up for their newsletter, follow them on your preferred social media outlets, or bookmark their website. There is no paywall on any of their content! But after you see the wide variety of NC-based info, you just might choose to make a donation to support their great work.

From the July 31st Newsletter; NCGA Despicable veto override
Excellent, reassuring, grounding synopsis of the despicable veto override bonanza at the NCGA on Tuesday. Thank you, Michael Garrett - NC Senate, for the inspiring words. If you are not on Facebook, check him out on Instagram or on his website.
Our favorite part: "The resurrection of our democracy starts now. The question isn’t whether you’re with me – it’s whether you’re ready to be part of the generation that saved North Carolina’s soul."
